Over the past twelve months, we’ve experienced significant growth at Carl Marks Advisors. Not only did the firm welcome new faces at nearly every level, but we also were able to recognize several of our team members with hard-earned promotions.

Hires

We welcomed Don Sheehan, a senior banking executive with deep expertise focused on commercial loan workouts, to our team as Managing Director. Don brings a unique perspective to Carl Marks Advisors with prior roles at Bank of America, Fleet Bank, Shawmut and Bank of New England.

Our restructuring team welcomed Steven Agran who brings more than twenty years of experience to his role as Managing Director. Steve has served in multiple interim C-Suite roles, including CRO, CEO, COO and CFO, during restructuring engagements and across a wide range of industries including retail, automotive and manufacturing. He previously was a principal at Morris Anderson LLC and also held roles at Addition Management, Glass & Associates, Nightingale & Associates and Pricewaterhouse.

We further expanded with the addition Patrick Flynn, who joined Carl Marks Advisors as a Managing Director. Patrick has over two decades of expertise in workouts and distressed situations, as a direct lender and principal investor for both regulated banks and private capital. Prior to joining Carl Marks Advisors, Patrick held roles at such companies as Sasco Investment Group, LStar Capital and CIT Group.

Alec Haesler joined Carl Marks Advisors as a Vice President, bringing six years of experience in both financial restructuring and investment banking. A graduate of the University of Virginia, with a BS in Commerce, Alec previously worked at Loughlin Management Partners as well as PwC.

We welcomed Marye Moran as an Associate to our restructuring team. Before joining Carl Marks Advisors, Marye gained experience in the Energy & Natural Resources Group at Morgan Stanley where she worked on LBO, M&A and refinancing transactions. Marye graduated Cum Laude from Boston College with a degree in English and a double minor in Mathematics and Economics.

Promotions

We announced multiple promotions across our firm this year including three members of our restructuring advisory team: Brian Williams to Partner, Jonathan Killion to Managing Director, and Benjiman Godbout to Director.

Brian joined Carl Marks Advisors’ Houston office last year, and since then, has lent his expertise to numerous engagements in the oil & gas sector including C&J Energy Services, Latshaw Drilling and Gulfstream Services. Brian previously was CFO, Co-Founder and Director of Cretic Energy Services and also held roles at Macquarie Capital and Tristone Capital.

Jonathan, who has more than 12 years of experience in financial services, joined the CMA team in 2008 and in that time, has brought his expertise to a number of industry and situations. Notable engagements include Sleep Innovations, Florida Marine Transporters and Daymen. Jonathan has also been involved in several award-winning engagements including the 2014 Distressed M&A Deal of the Year and the 2010 Turnaround of the Year (Large Company).

Since starting with us in 2015, Benjiman has played a critical role in several transactions including Joe’s Jeans, Cal Dive International and Education Corporation of America. Ben brings over 11 years of experience to his role and has substantial expertise in both restructuring as well as investment banking.

Scott Webb and David Endo, two of our investment banking professionals, were promoted to Senior Managing Director and Director, respectively. Scott was also named co-head of the restructuring vertical within the investment banking group alongside Partner Evan Tomaskovic.

Scott began at Carl Marks Advisors in 2007, and since then has continued to hold increasing roles of responsibility. He specializes in special situations requiring complex solutions and has worked in a number of industries including manufacturing, healthcare and energy. Scott’s recent engagements include Norte III, Triad Isotopes and Coastal Concrete.

David joined our team in 2011, bringing significant experience in financial advisory and restructuring to our investment banking team. David has worked on a variety of deals since joining Carl Marks Advisors, including capital raises, M&A, internal reorganizations, and 363 sales.

As we move into 2018, we look forward to continuing to expand our team and bring outstanding service and innovative, tailored solutions to each one of our engagements.
